SQUASH: Six Egyptians in El Gouna International semifinals


Six seeded Egyptians have advanced to the semifinal between the men and women’s tournaments, with the final set to be played on Friday, April 27.

Men’s world number 1 Mohamed El-Shorbagy succeeded in knocking out world number 7 Simon Rosner by four sets to one by 11-2, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-8.

In another contest, Marwan El-Shorbagy set a semifinal meeting against his brother Mohamed after he overcame his counterpart and world number 5 Karim Abdel-Gawad with three clear sets by 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6.

Furthermore, world number 3 Ali Farag have defeated fellow Egyptian and world number six Tarek Momen with three games to zero by 11-4, 11-3 and 11-7. He will face world number two Gregory Gaultier who beat Miguel Rodriguez in their quarterfinal tie against each other.

On the other hand, women’s world number one Nour El-Sherbini eased past France and world number 6 Camille Serme in three clear sets to make the final four, where she will face Laura Massaro who defeated Joshna Chinappa.


Third-seeded Egyptian Nour El-Tayeb has saw off England and world number 10 Alison Waters, downing her by 12-10, 11-6 and 11-7, to reserve a place in the semifinal where she will face world number 2 Raneem El-Welily who had prevailed over Annie Au.

It is worth mentioning that all the semifinal ties for El Gouna International are scheduled to take place on Thursday.
