Salah beats Marcelo to Champions League Player of the Week award
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah beat Real Madrid full-back Marcelo to the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week award.
The Egypt international was nominated for the award after scoring a brace and providing two assists in Liverpool’s 5-2 victory over the Serie A side in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield.
Salah opened the scoring against his former club with a wonderful curling effort from the edge of the box after 35 minutes before chipping the ball over Alisson Becker to make it 2-0 just before half time. He then turned provider to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the second half.

Meanwhile, Marcelo was shortlisted for the award after scoring a goal in the Spanish giants’ 2-1 win over Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Salah topped the vote with a total of 92 per cent while the Real Madrid star collected only 8 per cent of the votes.
The former AS Roma winger, who scored 43 goals in all competitions with Liverpool, moved level with Cristiano Ronaldo on four Player of the Week awards in the Champions League this season. The 25-year-old collected the prize in the first and third round of the group stage as well as the first leg of the quarter-final.
