West Bromwich entered the game hoping to claim three points needed in their fight against relegation after they successfully achieved a run of  three unbeaten games, two of which were against Manchester United 0-1 and Liverpool 2-2, while Newcastle were aiming to maintain the 10th spot of the league table with 41 points.

Although it’s a must win game for the Baggies, the first half witnessed few threatening chances on both sides. The efforts started to increase following Philips lead goal in the 28th minute as he received the ball from Jake Livermore’s through ball and brilliantly stroke it in the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Newcastle blowed off the chance to equalise in the first half as Robert Kennedy went solo with the keeper, however, his shot hit the keeper’s left post and West Bromwich left the pitch with the 0-1 lead.

The Albions sought dominance in the second half as they tried to keep the ball in the attacking half with more threats on target however nothing was threatening enough to double the visitors lead and the second half ended with the same result of the first.

The result keeps West Bromwich in the last position of the table with 28 points overall. Their next encounter will be a much tougher task against Tottenham on May 5.
