Tarek El-Ashry to step down as Wadi Degla manager
After staying in the Egyptian Premier League, Wadi Degla manager Tarek El-Ashry has announced that he will step down at the end of the season from his position.
El-Ashry had taken over after Mido resigned in early December, with the team in the relegation zone. In Ashry’s remarks to DMC Sports, he mentioned that he chose this time to announce his departure, because Wadi Degla had secured safety.
The former Haras El Hodood manager added that he wanted to give the administration two months time to find their next manager, and encouraged them to avoid the mistakes they made at the beginning of the season.
Reports had begun to emerge about Wadi Degla’s next manager, including a rumor that Greek manager Takis Gonias was set to take charge.
El-Ashry thanked the board of the directors and his players for their efforts, and added that he did not yet know who he will manage in the future.
Wadi Degla next play Smouha in the Egypt Cup quarter final on the 1st of May. El-Ashry has won the competition twice as a manager.
