Official: Adam El-Abd’s Wycombe Wanderers clinch promotion to League One
Adam El-Abd’s Wycombe Wanderers have secured promotion to the EFL League One following their 2-1 over Chesterfield on Saturday.
Following their win over relegated side Chesterfield Wycombe Wanderers have secured a third-spot finish as they are four points away from fourth-place Exeter City with just one game left, which means that they have secured automatic promotion to the EFL League one.
The Chairboys have been relegated to the EFL League Two after the 2011/2012 season and have failed to secure a promotion ever since even though they came very close during the 2015/2016 season when they qualified for the playoffs.
This is El-Abd’s fifth career promotion, in 2004 during his first season with Brighton and Hove Albion he clinched his first promotion to the EFL Championship and in 2011 he played a key role in the Albion’s promotion to the same competition.
He then moved to Bristol City where he secured another promotion to the Championship during the 2014/15 season. During the same season, he was loaned out to Bury FC where he clinched another promotion but this time to the EFL League one.
The defender joined Wycombe Wanderers during the last summer transfer window from Shrewsbury Town, he played 41 games across all competitions scoring once and providing two assists.
El-Abd has been capped for Egypt seven times when Bob Bradley was the head coach of the national team and was able to score once during an international friendly against Uganda.
