Egypt FA: Salah never threatened to abandon team in Russia
Egyptian Football Association board member Karam Kordy denied rumors claiming that Egypt national team and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah threatened to not take part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia due to the recent image rights’ dispute.
Mohamed Salah recently took to Twitter conveying his disappointment towards the way the EFA handled the image rights’ dispute, which saw the country’s football governing body use the player’s image on the Egypt team plane.
The player’s lawyer and managerial director, Ramy Abbas Issa, pointed out before that Mohamed Salah could miss the World Cup if the issue is not resolved before June 15 and that he plans to take action against the EFA.
“What was said about Salah threatening to abandon the team in the World Cup is completely false,” Karam Kordy said in radio comments. “Salah never implied that he will not join the team in Russia and his agent Ramy Abbas Issia does not have a say in this issue.”
The EFA chairman Hany Abou-Rida also announced in a statement that he spoke with the young star confirming that he will solve any issue facing Salah right now.
“Salah never asked for any money, the issue is related to removing some of his pictures from the national team’s plane since it can harm him because of copyright contracts he signed before,” he added. “It took the EFA sometime to resolve the issue, the whole thing is more simple than how it was portrayed in the media.”
