The Egyptian national team is a very good side, says Marcel Desailly
Former French footballer Marcel Desailly praised the Egyptian national team, saying that he hopes the Pharaohs could reach the semi-final of the World Cup.
Desailly believes that the two North African nations have proven that they deserve the support of the African continent.
In an interview with Ghanaweb, the 49-year-old former player spoke of the Egyptian national team saying, “Egypt is a very good side that combines collective capacity with an individual player that can make a difference.”
“It has now been 84 years since an African country reached the semi-final so it is a real challenge. We hope that they can make it,” concluded Desailly.
Egypt qualified to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. On the other hand, Morocco had a successful qualification campaign as they were unbeaten without conceding a single goal.
The Pharaohs were drawn in Group A, and they are set to face Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and hosts Russia. While Morocco were picked in Group B and will go up against European champions Portugal, Iran, and former World Cup winners Spain.
