Aly Ghazal optimistic ahead of World Cup, praises Mohamed Salah
Ghazal, who currently plies his trade at MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, hasn’t been called-up by the national team since Egypt’s 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
He has hailed his compatriot Mohamed Salah, saying the Liverpool winger is currently better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mohamed Salah has been on fire for Liverpool this season, scoring 43 goals while providing 15 assists in 47 games across all competitions.
The winger led his side to thrash Roma 5-2 in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final, by scoring two goals while providing another two, and Ghazal was impressed by Salah’s performance in that game.
“He shows every game that he’s a top player. But, especially in that game, he showed that he’s top three in the world at the moment,” Ghazal said.
“At the moment, he’s the best. I don’t care (what people say); the people talk about Messi and Ronaldo because they’re consistent, every season they have a good year, but if you come to this year, at this moment, he’s the best.”
“There’s a lot (of talent). Trezeguet is doing great for the national team. Mohamed Elneny, who plays for Arsenal, (Ahmed Hegazi), he’s doing great … I think they’re the best that you can watch,” said Ghazal.
“I feel good (about our chances). The guys are doing well. Our group is, a good group — not perfect, not bad, it’s good — so we have an opportunity. I think we can do something great.”
Aly Ghazal has featured for Vancouver Whitecaps in three games this season as his side currently sit third in the Western Conference of the MLS.
Whitecaps’ next game will be against Minnesota United, who sit seventh in the Western Conference, on Saturday, May 5.
