Al Ahly honorary president Turki Al-Sheikh ‘ready’ to hire world-class technical team
Al Ahly honorary president Turki Al-Sheikh expressed readiness to help the Red Castle get a ‘world class’ technical team and sign new players ahead of next season.
Al-Sheikh’s offer came after the league champions faced two consecutive defeats. They lost to Zamalek in gameweek 34 of the Egyptian Premier League – their first Cairo Derby league defeat in 11 years – before they’re knocked out of the Egypt Cup quarter-final at the hands of Assiouty Sport.
Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority, has repeatedly provided financial support to Al Ahly since his appointment as the club’s honorary president in December. He’s also among a group of other Arab investors who are expected to support Al Ahly in their stadium project.
“After Al Ahly’s loss and their elimination from the Egypt Cup, I announce my readiness to support the Red Castle by providing a world-class technical team and foreign players who are suitable for the history of the club to prepare the team for the league and the CAF Champions League next, in addition to holding a training camp abroad,” Al-Sheikh wrote on his Facebook account.
He also announced that he’ll present his ideas to the club officials and discuss the stadium project during his next trip to Egypt on May 14.
Al Ahly, who have clinched the 40th league title in March, will now focus on the CAF Champions League group stage, set to kick off this week. The Cairo giants will meet up with Esperance ST on Friday in the first match of Group A, which also includes Township Rollers and KCC Kampala.
