Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Marei features as Etoile draw in CAF Champions League

Amr Marei – Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia)
May 5 – CAF Champions League – Amr Marei came on as a substitute as Etoile du Sahel gained one point against Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League group stage opener. The hosts opened the scoring through Mongo Bokamba before the break and Ammar Jemal scored the equaliser for Etoile in the 66th minute. The Tunisian side are set to meet up with Ben Guerdane in their last fixture of the Tunisia Ligue 1 on Wednesday.
Amr Warda – Atromitos (Greece)
May 5 – Greek Superleague – Atromitos won 4-0 against Kerkyra in the final league match this season as Amr Warda was out of the squad. Dauda opened the scoring for Atromitos six minutes in after being teed up by Giannoulis. Eight minutes later the Nigerian doubled the lead for Atromitos. In the 59th minute, Kostas Kotsopoulos scored the third goal for Kasimpasa after being set up by Dauda. In the 67th minute, Nicolas Diguiny scored the fourth for Atromitos. Atromitos finished fourth in the league, which means that they secured a spot in Europa League qualifications.
Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)
May 5 – League One – Sam Morsy played the full 90 minutes as Wigan defeated Doncaster Rovers 1-0 in the final fixture of the English League One. Wigan won the league title with 98 points just two points away from runners-up Blackburn Rovers.
Aly Ghazal – Whitecaps Vancouver (Canada)
May 5 – MLS – Aly Ghazal played the whole game as his side Whitecaps Vancouver lost 1-0 to Minnesota United. Although the home side played with 10 players after Mason Toye was shown the red card, they still managed to clinch the victory with Miguel Ibarra’s goal in the 60th minute. Vancouver missed a handful of crucial chances including Yordy Reyna’s shot that hit the bar, as they ended the game with another loss. Ghazal’s side have now lost four of their last five games in the MLS.
Omar Gaber – Los Angeles FC (USA)
May 5 – MLS – Omar Gaber was introduced on the 68th minute in Los Angeles’ FC 1-1 draw with FC Dallas. Diego Rossi continued his impressive form by feeding the first goal to Steven Beitashour, while Argentinian striker Maximiliano Urruti found the equaliser for the visitors in the second half. This was LA’s first defeat after three successive wins and they are now one point away from the top spot with a game in hand.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
May 6 – Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady remained on the bench as Millwall defeated Aston Villd 1-0 in the last fixture of the Championship. Following the loss, Villa sit fourth with 83 points sealing a spot in the Premier League promotion playoffs.
Amr Gamal – HJK (Finland)
May 7 – Veikkausliiga – Amr Gamal remained on the bench as HJK earned a 2-1 away win over PS Kemi. Nikolai Alho opened the scoring for the guests in the 39th minute before Keaton Isaksson equalised two minutes later. Joao Klauss scored the winner for HJK in the 68th minute. HJK are currently level on 16 points with leaders RoPS and will next face Inter Turku in the Cup final on May 12 before playing against TPS in the league on May 18.
Abdallah El-Said – KuPS (Finland)
May 7 – Veikkausliiga – Abdallah El-Said was left out of the squad as KuPS earned a 5-1 win over FC Inter in the league. This marked their fourth win of the season as they now sit third on 14 points, two behind Amr Gamal’s HJK and RoPS. They’ll next play leaders RoPS on May 13.
