Mansour names Turki Al-Sheikh as Zamalek’s honorary president
Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority, was appointed as Zamalek’s rivals Al Ahly’s honorary president last December.
Since then he has provided Red Devils with financial support and is among several Arab investors who are expected to support Al Ahly’s stadium project.
And now he has been announced as Zamalek’s honorary president by Mortada Mansour, with the latter confirming the news during a press conference on Saturday.
The decision came after Al-Sheikh welcomed Mansour in his hometown in Saudi Arabia, and as claimed by Mansour, Al-Sheikh apologised for not supporting the Cairo giants financially as promised before.
The Zamalek president has also shed light on the main reason for his decision saying, “Mamdouh Abbas, Zamalek former president, had refused Al-Sheikh’s support for the club claiming it as interfering, that’s why I decided to grant him the honorary presidency.”
The Saudi businessman has helped the club secure a number of signings, including Tunisia international Hamdi Nagguez and newly appointed manager Christian Gross.
