Handball: Al Ahly beat Zamalek to win league title

Al Ahly’s team were crowned league champions after defeating 27-26 in a thrilling play-off final on Monday.

Zamalek had defeated Al Ahly 18-17 in the final game of the league on Saturday to equal Al Ahly’s points tally and set up a title decider.

The Red Devils got off to a strong start and had an impressive first half. Few minutes before the break, Al Ahly had a 15-7 advantage. Zamalek reduced the deficit to seven goals before the first half whistle, which ended 16-9.

Despite being down by seven goals, Zamalek looked determined to turn things around after the break. They mounted an incredible comeback and managed to reduce the gap to 21-18 midway through the second half.

Zamalek kept pushing, and their efforts paid off as the scoreline stood at 27-25 in the 29th minute. The White Knights were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the game that was converted by Ahmed El-Ahmar but it wasn’t enough to complete their comeback.

This marked Al Ahly’s second league title in a row and their 21st in history.
