Khaled Mortagy: Champions League is more important than Egypt Cup
Al Ahly board member Khaled Mortagy believes that a ninth African Champions League title is more valuable than winning the Egypt Cup.
The Red Devils’ poor run of results saw them lose to Assiouty Sport in the Egypt Cup quarter-final and Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League, before settling for a draw in their CAF Champions League group stage opener.
“I do not want to comment on the football team right now because this is not my league, there is a spokesman for that role, this is not my job,” Mortagy told OnSport satellite channel.
“But I am confident that the football team will claim more titles for the club and most importantly the ninth African Champions League.
“The African Champions League is more important than the Egypt Cup, and most of the big clubs have lost in the cup this season,” he added.
Al Ahly kicked off their CAF Champions League group stage journey with a disappointing goalless draw at home against Esperance Sportive de Tunis. They’ll next travel to Uganda to face KCCA FC in the gameweek 2 of the group stage.
