El-Shahat wins Gulf League Fans’ Player of the Year

has been announced as the winner of the fans’ player of the year award at the .

Following his impressive performances after joining Al Ain from Misr El-Makkasa, El-Shahat has been rewarded for his efforts with an award that came via a fan vote.

The attacking midfielder scored seven and assisted 11 in just 11 appearances for the Emirati side, bettering his goal contribution rate in the Egypt Premier League which saw him pick up nine goals and four assists in 16 games for Misr El-Makkasa.

El Shahat’s impressive numbers saw him beat off stiff competition in the form of Omar Abdulrahman, Marcus Berg (Al Ain), Mbark Boussoufa (Al Jazira), Sebastian Tagliabue, Mourad Batna, Mohamed Al Shamsi (Al Wahda), Fabio Lima (Al Wasl), Yaseen Al Bakhit (Dibba Al Fujairah) and Youssef Kalfa (Emirates Club).

El-Shahat’s season is also particularly impressive as he, alongside Abdulrahman and Berg, made up a formidable attack that scored 65 goals in 22 games and eventually won the league title that had eluded them for the last two seasons, as well as providing the first major honour of El Shahat’s career.

Al Ain’s focus will now turn to attempting to overturn a 4-2 deficit in the second leg of the AFC Champions League round of 16 against Al Duhail on Tuesday 15th May at 5:30PM Egyptian time.
