Ajax Amsterdam FC manager Erik ten Hag said he still remembers from his time with Feyenoord in a press conference ahead of the midfielder retirement match.

Ajax are set to face Al Ahly in an honorary game as Al Ahly captain is set to retire after the season is concluded. Hag spoke in the pre-match press conference about Ghaly, praising the player and reminiscing his time with the Rotterdam-based club.

“Ghaly played for Feyenoord and we still remember him,” Hag said. “It is important for us to be here and participate in his retirement match.”

The 36-year-old midfielder moved to Feyenoord from Al Ahly in 2003 where he stayed there until January 2006 before joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt also had his say about the retiring midfielder saying that he enjoyed watching Ghaly in Holland.

“It is good for us to participate in his retirement match and we aim to have a good match,” he said.

Al Ahly will take on Ajax on Friday at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

Youssef Wael is a massive Al Ahly and Manchester United supporter from Cairo, Egypt. One of the few Egyptians who never really wanted to have a career in football, just played it as a hobby. Wael also played squash for 7 years.
