Egypt’s World Cup group rivals: Saudi Arabia down Algeria in friendly
Egypt’s World Cup group rivals Saudi Arabia have defeated Algeria 2-0 in a friendly match in Cadiz, Spain as part of their preparations for the global event in June.
Saudi Arabia were drawn in the same World Cup group as Egypt, which is Group A, and they will battle out with Uruguay and the hosts Russia.
The Algeria friendly is a game among a series of preparatory games that have been scheduled according to a roadmap which was announced by the Saudi Football Federation after the Green Falcons qualified to the World Cup.
Salman Farag opened the scoring for Saudi Arabia at the 25th minute through a free-kick few centimeters before the penalty box, whilst the second goal was marked by Yahya El-Shehri in the final five minutes of the game when he was in one-on-one situation with Algeria goalkeeper.
The encounter have seen the absence of several internationals from Algeria since the game not being registered in the FIFA calendar or during any international break.
Saudi Arabia forthcoming games include Greece, Italy, Peru and Germany before the world’s most prestigious competition kicks off.
