EFA announce Egyptian referee for Egypt Cup final
The Egyptian FA have announced in an official statement that an Egyptian referee will be in charge in of the Egypt Cup final clash between Zamalek and Smouha.
The decision came after several Egyptian reports suggested that Smouha president Farag Amer wanted foreign referees for the game to avoid bias decisions.
The EFA refereeing committee see this as an opportunity for Egyptian referees to gain more experience.
“This decision was made to support Egyptian referees and to congratulate them on a great season. They must be honored infront of the whole world, by counting on them and giving them more confidence,” they said in the announcement.
“Egyptian referees were chosen to manage foreign games, they succeeded in leaving a good impression on Egyptian referees, this led to the selection referee Gehad Greisha to be considered as one of the world’s best referees and to referee in the World Cup,” they concluded.
The Egypt Cup final will be held on Tuesday May 15 at the Borg Al Arab stadium, Zamalek will be looking to win their fifth cup since 2013 and their 26th throughout history. As for Smouha they will try and win their first ever major trophy.
