Sherif Ekramy admits he is fighting for a place in Egypt’s World Cup squad
Ekramy has struggled during the last six months after losing his starting spot on club level to Mohamed El-Shennawy, who subsequently took his spot in the Egyptian national team.
Ekramy has been a regular squad member for Egypt since the appointment of Hector Cuper and was the starting goalkeeper in Egypt’s most recent official game against Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers.
“God willing I will be in the World Cup. This is not a promise but I work hard, with commitment and in silence, leaving my Egypt call for the World Cup for fate,” Ekramy told Sada El Balad channel.
“I am fighting with the national team since 2014 in order to grab the chance to feature in the World Cup and I was the starting goalie until three or four months ago.”
“Missing the World Cup would be so harsh for me. At the end of the day I am not a stranger for the coaching staff, they know me well.”
