Ismaily draw with Al Masry to secure second-place finish
Ismaily secured a second-place finish in the Egyptian Premier League after their last league game with Al Masry ended in a stalemate.
A penalty by Ahmed Shoukry in the dying minutes of the first half was cancelled out by a Hosni Abd Rabo goal in the second half as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Having lost star striker and Burkina Faso international Aristide Bance for four months to an achilles tendon tear, Al Masry knew they would have their work cut out to pick up a win away at an Ismaily side who have defied all expectations to find themselves in second place going into their last game of the season.
With Ahmed Gomaa leading the line, the Green Eagles spent the majority of the first half pushing for the initiative before Ahmed Shoukry dispatched a penalty in stoppage time, giving Al Masry a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.
Ismaily made amends for the goal four minutes into the second half through Egyptian legend Hosni Abd Rabo, however from here the second and third best teams in Egypt cancelled each other out as the game finished 1-1.
The result means that Ismaily are guaranteed to finish in second place with their overall successful season coming to an end, as they will be returning to the CAF Champions League next season. Al Masry are in third place, with a blockbuster final game remaining against league champions Al Ahly.
