has revealed that he always wanted to return back to the Premier League to prove Chelsea were wrong to sell him.

The Egyptian’s first Premier League stint came during the 2014/2015 season when joined Chelsea from FC Basel, but failed to shine under then-manager Jose Mourinho.

However this season he has been a revelation for Liverpool this season, scoring 43 goals and assisting 15 in 50 games, guiding the Reds to UEFA Champions League final.

He also managed to land the PFA Player of the Year award and the Football Writers’ Player of the Year, as well as winning Liverpool’s Player of the Year award.

“To be honest, it was always in my mind when I left Chelsea,” Salah said.

“I said many times, it was always in my mind to come back because a lot of people said ‘he cannot succeed here [in England] and he is not good enough for the Premier League’.

“So it was always in my mind to come back. I had two great seasons in Rome and everyone was telling me ‘no, don’t come back’ but it was always in my mind that I have to come back to prove them wrong,” he added.

Liverpool will face Brighton at Anfield and will need just one point to ensure a top-four finish ahead of Chelsea, before travelling to Kiev to play against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The Spanish side are considered as favourites, having won the competition in three of the last four years, but Salah is confident in his side’s ability ahead of the final.

“Of course we can. We played in the semi-finals and quarter-finals against Roma and Manchester City. Both teams are very good. They have special quality and they have been outstanding this year,” he said.

“But it is only one game. It is not long. It is just one step so we have to keep fighting and I am excited. Everyone in the city is excited about so let’s see.”
