Al Masry’s Ahmed Gomaa dreams of joining national team
Al Masry SC striker Ahmed Gomaa said it’s his dream to join the Egyptian national team in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The 29-year-old scored 20 goals and assisted two in 39 appearances across all competitions with the Port Said-based side this season, which prompted a number of Egyptian fans to start a hashtag on Twitter that called for the inclusion of the Al Masry forward in the Pharaohs’ squad for the World Cup.
The former Ittihad El-Shorta striker said he appreciates the fans’ initiative and dreams of joining the national team in Russia but respects the technical staff’s decision.
Gomaa’s statements came after Al Masry were held to a 1-1 draw by Ismaily, which ended their dreams of a second-place finish in the Egyptian Premier League.
“I hope to join the national team but at the end it’s the staff’s decision,” Gomaa said, as reported by Al Masry official website.
Gomaa will miss Al Masry’s encounter with Sudanese outfit Al Hilal in the CAF Confederation Cup due to suspension. They’ll next play their final league game against champions Al Ahly on May 22.
