Salah believes not joining Zamalek is the reason why he is now in Europe
At the start of his career, Salah was close to joining Zamalek, yet the club decided he wasn’t good enough for them, and in a recent interview with ON TV satellite channel, the Pharaoh described what could have been if he had played for the White Castle.
“What if I had joined Zamalek? I think if I had signed for Zamalek I would not be where I am now.
“Al Ahly and Zamalek do not allow their players to leave easily, so I believe I would have stayed in Zamalek for not less than four years.
“I signed for Basel one month after failing to join Zamalek, with the suspension of the league after what happened in Port Said, I think Zamalek were not going to let me go at any cost had I joined them.”
In Switzerland, Salah won the league twice and was named SAFP Golden Player after leading his side Basel to great accomplishments in Europe, paving his way to join Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea as his first step in Europe’s top five leagues.
Salah stepped into the breach with Roma when he recorded the highest points tally with the club, before he joined Liverpool and wrote history with his 43 goals.
