VIDEO: Amr Marei’s Étoile du Sahel lose Tunisia Cup to Club Africain
Both teams wanted to win the trophy to rescue their disappointing seasons, as Club Africain and Étoile both lost the Ligue 1 title, finishing second and third respectively behind champions Espérance.
Egypt international Amr Marei, who started on the bench, also wanted to win his first ever trophy, but unfortunately for him, Club Africain proved too strong for his side.
Team captain Wissem Ben Yahia belted his side into a 35th-minute after a shocking howler from goalkeeper Achraf Krir. Five minutes into the second-half Saber Khalifa doubled his side’s lead after another mistake from Krir.
In the 65th minute, Ghazi Ayedi managed to make it 3-0, converting Yassine Chammakhi’s pass into the empty net. Rami Bedoui pulled one back for Étoile in the 81st minute through a header, before Saber Khalifa completed the 4-1 scoreline in the 94th minute.
The trophy is Club Africain’s 13th in history, only Espérance Sportive de Tunis have more (15), while Étoile come third behind them with ten titles.
