Guardiola: Salah was outstanding but De Bruyne deserved player of the year
The Egyptian was voted Player of the Year by fellow players, beating Manchester City’s trio, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and David Silva.
On De Bruyne winning the award, Guardiola stated, “Unfortunately, he didn’t get the Player of the Year. Mo Salah was outstanding but Kevin deserved it too.
“He was in the team, he won the league, making good football. He was a key player for us all of the season,” he added.
Salah grabbed his first Golden Boot Award after finishing the season as the top scorer with the most goals in the Premier League era, bettering the previous record of 31 goals held jointly by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez.
The Reds’ superstar will be hoping to continue his form to win the Champions League, as Liverpool travel to Kiev to take on back to back holders Real Madrid on May 26.
