Jürgen Klopp praises Salah on goal scoring record
Speaking after Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, manager Jürgen Klopp praised Mohamed Salah as he broke the Premier League single season scoring record.
Liverpool struggled to open up the game in the beginning. It was a relatively close till Salah broke the deadlock.
When speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Klopp acknowledged the slow start, “The game today, for him as well, didn’t start well. I said to him ‘you are not Rondon, you are not other central strikers, you cannot always try to wrestle with the opponent, you need to move’ and he did that and then he is really difficult to defend.”
Mohamed Salah’s goal against Brighton in the 26th minute made him the highest scoring player in a 38-game Premier League campaign. When asked about the record, Klopp was very proud of his player.
“Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I think especially the last few weeks were really difficult. We all can imagine how it would be if everybody tells you every day how brilliant you are…So it’s really difficult to stay focused and he is focused,” Klopp said.
“He [Salah] is young and has enough potential to improve – that’s really good news for all of us and for him as well. There is still work to do and I’m really happy about that.
“I’m happy for him and of course he gets the Golden Boot award.”
Liverpool’s season will conclude with the Champions League final against Real Madrid and Klopp was confident that Salah would perform on the big stage.
“He has two weeks to prepare for our biggest game so far, that’s for sure. It’s a massive one, but now I am really looking forward to it. So far it was always a bit ‘come on, don’t talk about it, we have to play this game and this game first’. Now, we will be ready and that’s really cool.
“This gives us a big boost, imagine we would’ve been in the final and it was the only chance to go in the Champions League is to win the Champions League final! That’s then maybe not the best option to choose, but that’s really cool now. It will be exciting,” Klopp concluded.
Following their win over Brighton on Sunday, Liverpool secured back-to-back Champions League qualifications.
