Sam Morsy thanks manager after receiving national team call up
Wigan Athletic and Egypt central midfielder Sam Morsy was delighted after being included in Hector Cuper’s preliminary squad for the World Cup.
The 29-man squad, which was announced by the Egypt manager on Sunday, will play three friendlies before they travel to Russia. They play against Kuwait on May 26, Colombia June 1, and lastly against Belgium on June 6.
When asked about his call up, Morsy told Wigan Athletics’s official website : “I wouldn’t have got the call up without the manager, the assistant, the coach and all first team staff, who have helped me with my game all season.”
Morsy’s game has developed considerably over the past few years. And this past season, Morsy was rewarded by being named Wigan’s captain and also made his first appearance for the national team.
“The players have also been great this season and made sure we all had a successful season. The Egypt staff watch and review all my games so it was important I had a good campaign,” he added.
The Latics had a spectacular season, as they conquered three Premier League teams in the FA Cup and were the first English team to beat Manchester City.
Morsy and Wigan Athletic will be playing in the EFL Championship next season after they won League 1 title with 98 points ahead of Blackburn.
