Mohamed Farouk to officiate Egypt Cup final
The Refereeing Committee of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have appointed referee Mohamed Farouk for the Egypt Cup final.
Farouk will be officiating the final of the Egypt Cup between Smouha and Zamalek on Tuesday, May 15 at the Borg Al Arab Stadium. He was appointed after a huge dispute which saw Smouha withdraw from the Egypt Cup final after the EFA declined their request to assign the game to foreign referees.
The Alexandria-based team, however, have gone back on their withdrawal decision and announced they’ll play the game.
Farouk will be assisted on the sidelines by Ayman Degeish and Mahmoud Abu Al-Regal, while Mohamed Maarouf is going to be the fourth official. Tarek Sami and Mohamed Al-Sabahi are the fifth officials, while Gamal Sedky will be an observer of the referees.
Zamalek have reached the final after thrashing Ismaily SC 4-1, while Smouha have knocked out Assiouty Sport on penalties, as the Alexandrian team bagged four and the Beni Suef side only fired three.
The White Knights, who finished the league in fourth place, will be looking to win the cup title to rescue their disappointing season.
