Egypt’s World Cup group rivals: Saudi Arabia beat Greece
Egypt’s World Cup rival Saudi Arbia have beaten Greece 2-0 during a friendly that took place in Sevilla in preparation for the major competition.
Last Wednesday the Eagles won their first preparatory game against Algeria 2-0 and still have three games left against Italy, Peru and Germany before playing their opening World Cup game against hosts Russia on June 14.
Just 19 minutes into the first half Salem Al-Dawsari opened the scoring after lobbing the ball with a great header over Vasilios Barkas. Two minutes before the end of the first half Greece defender Giannoulis got sent off. In the 79th minutes Mohamed Kanno scored his side’s second and final goal.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt suffered a disappointing 1-0 against Greece during a friendly game in March.
Saudi Arabia were drawn in the same World Cup Group A alongside Egypt, and they will battle out with Uruguay and the hosts Russia. They will face Uruguay on June 20 then Egypt on June 25.
