Nigeria announce preliminary World Cup squad

coach Genor Rohr has disclosed his provisional squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, featuring players from the Nigerian Premier League as well as players from abroad.

Nigeria finished their World Cup qualifying group comfortably in the first place gaining 14 points out of possible 18. The Super Green Eagles were drawn in Group D along with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.

The squad has seen the presence of veteran midfielder and team captain John Obi Mikel, in addition to Chelsea’s Victor Moses and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.

Al Ahly forward Junior Ajayi was not included in Nigeria’s preliminary squad after he had received his first call in Nigeria’s most recent gathering in March.

Nigeria squad:

Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho (Deportivo La Coruna), Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United), Dele Ajiboye (Plateau United)

Defenders: Abdullahi Shehu (Bursaspor), Tyronne Ebueshi (Ado Den Haag), Olaoluwa Aina (Hull City), Elderson Echiejile (Cercle Brugge), Brian Idowu (Amkar Perm), Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes), William Ekong (Bursaspor), Leon Balogun (Mainz), Kenneth Omeruo (Kasimpasa), Stephen Eze (Lokomotiv Plovdiv)
