OFFICIAL: Ramon Diaz announced new Ittihad Jeddah coach
Ramon Diaz will not be leading Cairo giants Al Ahly as he officially joined Saudi Arabian outfit Ittihad Jeddah to replace Chilean coach Jose Luis Sierra.
Diaz was very close to taking charge of Al Ahly following the resignation of Hossam El-Badry who left Al Ahly after failing to snatch a single win in his last four matches in the Egyptian Premier League, Egypt Cup and CAF Champions League.
However, it is clear that negotiations recently failed with the former Paraguay coach and that he subsequently chose to accept the Saudi Arabian offer.
The 58-year-old led a number of teams during his career including River Plate, San Lorenzo, CF America, Paraguay national team and Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
With Al Hilal, Diaz managed to win the Saudi League title and Saudi Cup in the 2016/17 season, in addition to reaching the AFC Champions League final match in the same season before losing to Urawa Red Diamonds. He was sacked by the Saudi Pro League side in February 2018 following “unsatisfactory performance of the team”.
