Fulham beat Aston Villa to secure Premier League promotion
Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady, who won promotion to the Premier League twice before with Hull City, played 77 minutes, before he was subbed off for Jonathan Kodjia as his side suffered a 1-0 loss at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Fulham’s captain Tom Cairney scored the game’s only goal after 23 minutes to lead his side to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2014.
Twenty minutes from time, Fulham, who finished third in the Championship, were reduced to 10 men after Denis Odoi picked up a second yellow following a challenge on Jack Grealish.
Villa failed to exploit their man advantage and couldn’t create chances to equalise as the game ended in a 1-0 win for Fulham.
Elmohamady, 30, joined Aston Villa last summer from Hull City and has been one of their key players this season. He made 45 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side, assisting five times, helping them finish fourth in the Championship, which qualified them for the playoffs.
