Real Madrid beat Liverpool to win third straight Champions League title
Gareth Bale scored a brace as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to win the UEFA Champions League title for the third consecutive time.
The Reds were dealt a huge blow on the half hour mark, as Salah was forced off the field following a heavy challenge by Sergio Ramos. The Egypt international left the field in tears as he was replaced by Adam Lallana.
Karim Benzema broke the deadlock six minutes after the break after he capitalised on a huge error from Loris Karius as he latched onto a throw by the latter and sent it into the back of the net.
However, the Reds needed only four minutes to level the scoreline. Sadio Mane won the second ball off the corner as he latched onto Lovren’s header and slotted home past Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas to make it 1-1 in the 55th minute.
Gareth Bale, who came on as substitute for Isco in the 61st minute, regained Real Madrid’s lead three minutes after coming on. The 28-year-old Welshman scored a brilliant bicycle kick goal from the edge of the box to make it 2-1.
The titleholders kept pushing for a third goal and Benzema forced an excellent save from Karius in the 81st minute.
Bale completed his brace nine minutes from time as he sent a shot from distance that slipped through the hands of Karius and found its way into the back of the net.
