Lovren: I feel sorry for Salah and I hope he makes it to the World Cup
Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 loss in the Champions League Final to Real Madrid, Liverpool and Croatia centreback Dejan Lovren commented on the match.
“It’s painful to describe. It’s heart-breaking, to be honest.” Lovren told Liverpool.com
“We deserved more than this tonight. But at the end we should be proud of the long road that we did. From the game against Hoffenheim to reach the final.”
Despite the loss, Lovren was proud of his team. “I’m proud of the team, I’m proud of the lads, I’m proud of the fans that travelled for such a long time and the fans around the world who supported us.”
“I’m sure we will come back next year even stronger. And I promise that.”
Mohamed Salah was injured in the 29th minute of the UEFA Champions League final after being taken down by Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos. As a result of the injury, Salah was substituted off for Adam Lallana. Lovren commented on his injury.
“I feel sorry for him. We’ve been so unlucky today [Saturday]. I don’t know… it is what is,” Lovren said.
“But hopefully he will come back quickly and hopefully he can [play in] the World Cup for his national team. It’s just unlucky.”
Despite the injury, the EFA released a statement today declaring that Salah will be ready to play in the World Cup.
