Elmohamady confident ahead of World Cup despite Salah’s injury
Mohamed Salah was injured after landing on his shoulder following a heavy challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the UEFA Champions League final.
It has been announced earlier that Mohamed Salah will be out for up to three weeks and will miss Egypt’s friendlies against Colombia and Belguim.
He is also a doubt for Egypt’s World Cup opener against Uruguay, and Elmohamdy has revealed his confidence in his replacement’s abilities.
“We players wish Mohamed Salah a speedy recovery. The team were shocked when he was injured because of his importance,” Elmohamady told On Sport.
“We are waiting for his return, but in case of his absence, I am confident that his replacement will do well.
“Mohamed Salah’s importance to the team is indisputable and that’s why we hope he can make the Uruguay game.
“We are determined to achieve something special in the World Cup despite Salah’s injury,” he added.
The EFA revealed earlier that Mohamed Salah has started an injury rehabilitation program in Spain ahead of the World Cup.
Egypt were drawn in group A alongside hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. They will kick off their group stage games on June 15, before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 19 and June 25.
