Former Russian international striker  believes the World Cup hosts will be able to beat the Egyptian national team regardless of the presence or absence of team star .

Egypt were drawn in group A alongside hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. They will kick off their group stage games on June 15, before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 19 and June 25.

Mohamed Salah was injured after landing on his shoulder following a heavy challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the UEFA Champions League final.

” I do not think that Ramos had a direct intention to break the Liverpool player,” Kerzhakov said. “It is difficult to imagine that the defender deliberately wanted to injure his opponent’s shoulder.”

The most prolific goalscorer in the history of Russian football said that he hopes Salah can make it to the World Cup and that the predictions for his recovery process are true.

“Like hundreds of millions of football fans, I want him to play at the World Championships. He is not only the leader of the Egyptian national team but also one of the main stars of our group and the tournament in general,” he added.

Alan Dzagoez, Russia’s midfielder, also said that he is worried about Salah not making it to the World Cup describing his absence as “a loss” for the tournament.

As for Russia’s chances when they meet the Pharaohs in the second group match, he said: “I am convinced that the Russian national team can beat Egypt with or without Salah.”
