Marwan ElShorbagy withdraws from World Series Finals
ElShorbagy has withdrawn from next week’s ATCO PSA Dubai World Series Finals which means that Nick Matthew a former three-time World Champion will make his final appearance before retirement at the season-ending tournament between June 5-9.
As only the ranked top eight make it to the tournament held at the Emirates Gulf Club, now Matthew who is ranked ninth worldwide will find himself replacing the Egytpian.
The Englishman will take ElShorbagy’s place in Group A of the men’s tournament, which means he will go head to head with Marwan’s older brother and the World’s no 1, Mohamed El Shorbagy, along with Miguel Angel Rodriguez and World No. 4 Tarek Momen.
Two other Pharaohs will feature in this tournament, Ali Farag and Karim Abdel Gawad, they will be paired in group B next to Gregory Gaultier and Simon Rösner.
While four women will also represent Egypt in the same tournament, Nour El Sherbini, Nour El Tayeb, Nouran Gohar and Raneem El Weleily.
