VIDEO: Salah Mohsen scores in Egypt U-23 defeat against Tunisia
Egypt U-23 national team fell to a 2-1 away friendly defeat against Tunisia in preparations for the 2019 U-23 AFCON.
The young Pharaohs travelled to Tunis to face the Eagles of Carthage, before playing another two friendlies against Algeria on June 3 and 6.
The starting eleven saw Zamalek’s Omar Salah starting between the sticks, as well as Al Ahly’s Salah Mohsen and Akram Tawfik, and Ismaily duo Mohamed Sadek and Wagih Abdel-Hakim.
Egypt took the lead through Salah Mohsen after one minute only. The Al Ahly forward converted El-Dakhelya’s Nasser Mansi’s cross to give the Pharaohs an early lead.
That was a wake-up call for the Tunisian team, who then began to look more organized and managed to win a penalty, which Ahmed El-Radawy scored.
Manager Shawky Gharib brought on Al Ahly’s Ahmed Hamdi in the second-half in order to increase his side’s attacking efforts and it almost repaid when Salah Mohsen missed an incredible chance to put his side in front.
Five minutes later, Tunisia managed to overturn Egypt’s lead when Nessim Hened converted a corner to put his side 2-1 up.
Egypt tried to get back into the game and Al Assiouty’s Sherif Reda nearly equalised with a volley, but Tunisia’s goalkeeper was well positioned and parried away his shot.
