Mohamed Elneny: Salah is very important to all of Egypt
Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny spoke about Mohamed Salah’s importance to the Egyptian national team as well as the whole country.
Salah will be out for three weeks with injury and is expected to miss the first match of the 2018 World Cup in Russia against Uruguay after he was injured in Liverpool’s defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
“We all feel for Salah, he is a very important player for the national team as well as all of Egypt,” Elneny told On Sport satellite channel. “We will be waiting for him in the World Cup after recovering and becoming 100 per cent fit again.”
After facing Uruguay on June 15 in their opening match, the Pharaohs will clash with hosts Russia on June 19, and conclude the group stage against Saudi Arabia on June 25.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who was also injured, assured the fans he recovered from his ankle injury which he picked up against West Ham United in the English Premier League in April.
“I’m 100 per cent ready. I spoke to the medical staff right after joining the training camp and completed my rehabilitation successfully.”
The Pharaohs, who drew 1-1 with Kuwait last week, are preparing for another friendly against Colombia on Friday before facing Belgium on June 6 in their final preparation ahead of the World Cup.
“The Colombia game will be a good lesson to us. It will be a good practice before the World Cup and we are ready for it,” he added.
