England win 2-1 against Nigeria as both teams prepare for World Cup
England started the match looking much more dominant and having more of the ball. Nigeria looked lost on the pitch as they were dispossessed easily.
In the sixth minute, Trippier almost scored from a free kick but Uzoho tipped the ball out to the corner. Cahill opened the scoring for England after heading in the resulting corner played by Trippier.
England kept the pressure on as Sterling and Stones both had chances that almost went in. In the 29th minute, Lingard almost doubled the lead for England but once again, Uzoho parried it away.
Balogun made a crucial clearance for Nigeria as England almost scored the second goal of the night. In the 39th minute, Kane did score the second goal for England after capitalizing on a defensive error from the Super Eagles with a hard shot from outside the box.
Victor Moses tried a shot of his own from distance, but it didn’t trouble Pickford as he held it easily.
In the beginning of the second half, Iwobi halved the deficit for Nigeria as he slotted the ball into the back of the net after Ighalo’s shot hit the post initially.
In the 62nd minute, Eric Dier almost scored the third goal but his header went just wide for the hosts. Rashford came close to scoring as his shot went wide off the post in the 80th minute.
Nigeria will be playing against Czech Republic in their final friendly on the sixth of June at 15:00 CLT.
