Omar Bassam joins El-Makkasa from Al Assiouty on four-year deal
The 24-year-old Al youth product had only joined Al Assiouty last summer from Tanta, but his fine performances in the Premier League prompted Misr El-Makkasa board to make a move for him.
He will join the Fayoum-based club for a fee of 4m L.E, and has been handed a four-year deal which will start from next season and run until 2022.
The forward becomes El-Makkasa’s fifth signing of the summer after Mohamed Dabash, Taha Adel, Tarek Abo El-Ezz and Essam Sobhi.
Bassam was close to completing a move to Turkish side Antalyaspor, who sent an official offer to Al Assiouty, but the deal fell through.
Omar Bassam started his career at Al Ahly, coming through their youth ranks, and was part of the team that lift the league title in 2013.
He made only two appearances for the Red Devils, before joining Smouha, who loaned him to El-Dakhelya, before releasing him on a free transfer.
Aswan was the club that Bassam moved to in 2016, scoring twice in 12 games, before joining Tanta following Aswan’s relegation, but his time at Tanta was disappointing, as he failed to score a single goal in nine appearances.
His career saw a turning point when he moved to Al Assiouty, as his six goals and four assists led the club to their best-ever league finish as well as the Egypt Cup semi-finals.
Bassam was also part of the Egypt U-20 team that won the U-20 AFCON in 2013 in Algeria.
