Ajayi, Azaro and Ali Maaloul not for sale, says Al Ahly’s director of football
Al Ahly’s current assistant manager and director of football Mohamed Youssef has responded to the rumors linking the trio of Junior Ajayi, Walid Azaro and Ali Maaloul to a move away from the Red Castle.
Mohammed Youssef was appointed as the club’s assistant manager and director of football last week following the resignation of former manager Hossam El Badry and his staff back in May.
Walid Azaro’s future with the Red Devils has been uncertain following his injury on Matchday 33 against Petrojet while Ali Maaloul’s rumored summer exit continues to resonate as the season comes to an end.
Junior Ajayi in particular was heavily linked with a move to Sporting CP in Portugal in recent weeks following an impressive campaign that saw the Nigerian contribute to nine goals and 12 assists.
“The foreign trio [Ajayi, Azarou and Maaloul] is not for sale. They are all primary elements to Al Ahly’s success in the future,” said Youssef.
“There’s also not much time to sell key players in the transfer window and quickly find replacements. Al Ahly is a club that seeks trophies and not financial profit.
“We haven’t received any official offers in the past weeks but if we do, then we’ll have to discuss this with the club’s Football Committee and come up with a decision,” he concluded.
