Diego Godin: Uruguay’s game against Egypt the most important

captain has admitted that La Celeste’s World Cup group opener against represents the most important game for them, conceding that the Pharaohs are a tough opponent.

Uruguay have been drawn in Group A of the showpiece event along with Egypt, the hosts Russia and Asia’s representative Saudi Arabia. Uruguay will kick off their campaign against Egypt on June 15 at Ekaterinburg Arena.

Godin described the Egyptian national team as an improving team, singling out the influence of Liverpool star on the team.

“Egypt will be the first opponent we have ahead and it is the most important game in our heads at the moment,” Godin said in a press conference.

“It [Egypt] is a difficult team. They are organized and have a great coach with very clear ideas. We will see if Salah will play or not, it is clear that he is an important weapon for Egypt. Whether he plays or not our plans and preparations will not change.”

“It is evident that Egypt is changing and their potential will grow with Salah. He is a crucial player and determining players make the difference,” he added.
