West Brom to watch Gabr against Belgium before deciding on his future
West Brom will watch Egypt defender Ali Gabr during the Pharaohs’ pre-World Cup friendly against Belgium to decide if they will permanently sign him.
The Pharaohs are preparing for their last friendly before the World Cup, which will take place against Belguim on Wednesday, June 6.
And one of West Brom’s coaching staff will travel to Brussels to watch Ali Gabr to decide whether to sign the defender on a permanent basis, according to Express & Star.
They claim that the club’s technical consultant Giuliano Terraneo was supposed to attend Egypt’s friendly against Colombia last week, however, Gabr missed that game and Saad Samir started instead.
Ali Gabr was named in Hector Cuper’s final 23-man squad and is expected to start in the World Cup alongside club team-mate Ahmed Hegazi.
Hegazi was a key man for the Baggies last season, featuring in every Premier League game, but couldn’t help them survive relegation.
On the other hand, Ali joined West Brom on loan from Zamalek last January and didn’t manage to play a single minute, featuring twice for the under-23s.
The loan deal between Albion and Zamalek include an ‘option to buy’ clause, which allows the English side to sign Gabr permanently for just £1.1 million before the end of June.
