Egypt lose 3-0 to Belgium in last friendly ahead of World Cup

With goals from Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini, defeated Egypt in their last friendly ahead of the World Cup.

Despite suffering a 3-0 defeat against the Red Devils, the Pharaohs have shown a much better offensive side of their game, putting a lot of pressure on Belgium’s defense at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels.

The Pharaohs’ biggest chance came when Mohamed Abdel-Shafy delivered a pinpoint cross to Marwan Mohsen whose header went wide.

Lukaku scored first for Belgium with a rebound after veteran keeper Essam El-Hadary stopped Hazard’s shot and the No.10 fired the second after an error from Ahmed Fathi against Yannick Carrasco who crossed the ball to Hazard to end the first half 2-0.

Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet was introduced in the second half and as soon as he entered he hit the ground running with Egypt’s first shot on target yet it was found between Thibaut Courtois’s hands. Minutes later, Ramadan Sobhi had another effort saved by the goalie.

Trezeguet continued his virtuoso performance with a brilliant pass to Sobhi, sending him in-front of goal but the wide man was too slow to make a shot.

In the stoppage time, Michy Batshuayi dribbled past Ali Gabr and gave Marouane Fellaini his chance to make it 3-0.

The Pharaohs failed to score and Belgium walked out of the game with three goals and a clean sheet. This marked Egypt’s final friendly ahead of the World Cup as they drew with Kuwait and Colombia during their final preparation camp ahead of the showpiece tournament.

Damn. Egypt has such an ineffective attack… No opponent would be scared if Egypt has the ball. Egypt won’t score anyway. Even if we do have Salah.. They will defend him very well so that the only power of Egypt would be ineffective as well. I don’t think we will even score one goal at the world cup..

I think we will lose big to Uruguay, draw with Russia and hopefully we will win vs Saudia.

    My predictions:
    EGYPT vs Uruguay 1:3
    EGYPT vs Russia 0:0
    EGYPT vs Saudia 1:0

Next round is possible but needs hard work.

Belgium didn’t even give 100% and defeat us easily 3-0.. what if this was a serious match. Would we have have lost 8-0? I just hope Egypt won’t get slaughtered at the world cup. The second round is a dream that won’t be reality any time soon

Egypt had a better showing to Cuper’s standards. We actually have some good attacks in us but its clear we have goalkeeping issues. I think Cuper should try Shikabala on the right vs Uruguay and as our starting attacking midfielder when Salah comes back, El-Said is a passenger today and in most Egypt games, he does nothing.

That’s the problem. He’s not going to use Shikabala alongside other offensive midfielders. We COULD play offensive, Kloppesque football built around Salah. We DO have strong players fitting into such a system, some in the squad and some not called up or not even considered. We do, however, have the incompetence in person as our coach. Cupér is easily the most unfit World Cup participant not only in our team, but in the whole tournament.

Yes good for you egyptians because of you Ghana did not make it to World Cup. You are just going to make up numbers and not have any effect in Russia. Ghana would have done way much better in World Cup. And Salah injury will not heal in time

Ghana is worse than the Pharaohs. They lost to Urgay after they missed a crucial penalty in the quarter finale. Stupid players don’t deserve to be at the world cup.

I didn’t have a chance to watch the match. I just bet it was 3-0 for Belgium. Turned out right and it was exactly the scenario I’ve expected. Actually, anyone with a drop of intelligence could’ve guessed the run of that game. We don’t have any attack, we go down by one, we desprately try to equalize without having any attack, we scrumble. Come on, I don’t understand why there are still people around defending Cupér. I have actually never understood how anyone could see anything positive about his ridiculous, so-called “system”.

Btw: 2004-> Egypt 4 – Belgium 0 (slightly weaker side back then)
The talent pool available in Egypt at that time was comparable to that of today. The difference? We played under Hassan Shehata. Someone who knows what he’s doing. We played football. We had an offense…
P.S.: I’ve also guessed the Egypt-Colombia result right. If we face another team playing pseudo-defensive scared-chicken-football, it’ll end up in horribly boring and health risking midfield battles. In the end we’ve even got lucky because Colombia at least has proper strikers on the field who can cause trouble from time to time.

Were they fasting? Maybe that has something to do with the fact that they lost 3-0. I think once the fasting is over, their energy should be up and they will perform better at the world cup.

Yea, they were fasting the first half. Before the second half started they ate some dates and drank some water

Isn’t it interesting that everyone blames Cuper but no one blames the moronic players that made the mistakes that led to the goals?

Like the experienced Goalkeeper who spilt the ball and then failed to save a shot straight at him?

Or the experienced international defender who had thought he was playing for Ahly in the premier league and decided to dribble when under pressure from one of the best defenders in the world. (He is becoming a real liability)

Or the other English premier league defender who fell unnecessarily or the goalkeeper who ran out naively.

If you are going to blame Cuper for not attacking then people should at least realise that he was not helped by a shocking performance from what should have been a very reliable defence.
