Mourinho believes Egypt won’t make it out of their group
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t think Egypt will make it past the group stages, tipping Uruguay and Russia to progress to the second round.
Egypt were drawn in group A alongside hosts Russia, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia. They will kick off their campaign against the South American side on June 15, before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia respectively.
And Mourinho believes the Pharaohs doesn’t have what it takes to qualify for the round of 16, predicting hosts Russia to beat them to the second place behind Uruguay.
“Uruguay is going to win the group. They have experience, top players, and the right mentality,” Mourinho said.
“I think Russia will finish second and the crucial match will be Russia against Egypt,” he added.
The Portuguese predicted an easy qualification for Spain and Portugal in group B, and surprisingly picked Australia to join France in the round of 16 in group C.
Argentina and Nigeria will qualify from group D, Brazil and Switerzland from group E, and in group F, Mourinho believes Germany and Mexico will go through.
He backed England to come out on top ahead of Belgium in group G, and in group H he believes Senegal will finish top, with Poland claiming the second place ahead of Colombia.
