Al Ahly postpone new manager announcement
Al Ahly director of transfers Mohamed Fadl have declared on Thursday that the club have deferred their announcement of the new first team coach to a later time.
The Egyptian Premier League title holders announced a day prior that the club board will name the new coach in the next 24 hours, confirming that there are agreement with three coaches in place.
The managerial seat at Al Ahly has been vacant since the resignation of Hossam El-Badry, who is now close to land the job at Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.
Fadl stated that the Red Devils’ committee of football had found final agreement with one of the candidates for the job and have sent him plane tickets in order to arrive in Egypt on Thursday. However, the committee surprisingly received a call from the expected new coach informing the club that he is stepping down from accepting the club’s proposal due to family issues.
All the indications signal that Portuguese manager Jose Gomes was the targeted name, after Portuguese reports claimed that he reached an agreement with Al Ahly’s board and is currently on his way to Cairo for the official announcement.
The former Al Ahly striker pointed out that the committee of football is in frequent talks until completing the signing of a new foreign coach that suits Al Ahly and the ambitions of his fans.
