Egypt squad return to Cairo, Saad Samir heads to Russia
Egypt’s national team squad are scheduled to arrive in Cairo on Thursday afternoon, one day after their friendly game with Belgium.
The Pharaohs lost 3-0 to Belgium in Brussels in their final friendly ahead of the 2018 World Cup, which is set to kick off in one week. During their final preparation camp, Egypt played two other friendlies as they drew with Kuwait and Colombia.
They are expected to arrive in Cairo around 3pm on Thursday before travelling to Grozny, Egypt’s base for the World Cup, on Sunday morning. The Egyptian national team will hold one open training session in Cairo on Saturday night at the Cairo International Stadium, where fans will be able to watch the team prior to their departure to Russia.
Egypt international defender Saad Samir, however, will head to Grozny directly from Brussels due to difficulties related to issuing a new visa and passport after the end of his military service earlier this month, according to a statement by the Egyptian Football Association.
The Pharaohs will be making their first World Cup appearance in 28 years when they face Uruguay in their group stage opener on June 15. They will then play against hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 19 and June 25.
