Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi banned by FIFA
Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has been banned from all football activities for 90 by the independent Ethics Committee.
The Ghanaian government has dissolved its national football association following a video surfacing of Ghanaian officials accepting bribes before matches.
The scandal has indicted 66 Ghanaian referees as well as 14 FA officials in taking bribes, with the FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi finding himself in the midst of the allegations.
Following the Ghanaian government’s decision, the FIFA Ethics Committee has decided to ban Nyantakyi for a provisional period of 90 days, which can be extended for a further 45 days.
A video has emerged showing Nyantakyi taking $65,000 from a reporter pretending to be a businessman, which goes against the FIFA rules that prohibit officials from receiving cash gifts.
Ghana were scheduled to host the women’s AFCON later this year, with a new host now required. They will also drop out of the U20 World Cup and will probably not take part in the vote for the next host of the 2026 World Cup.
