national team held their first training session in Russia at the team’s base in Grozny as they prepare for their first World Cup encounter on the second day of the tournament against South American giants Uruguay.

After arriving in Grozny on Sunday morning, head coach Hector Cuper and his 23 men took part in an open training session with about 5,000 fans attending.

The Pharaohs qualified for the major tournament for the first time since 1990 and the players will be looking to write history by trying to qualify for the round of 16 for the first time in the country’s history. However, they will have to earn as many points as they can in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

Egypt had some shaky performances during their World Cup preparation games as they drew with both Kuwait and Colombia, before losing 3-0 against Belgium.
