Trezeguet: Our goal is to make the fans happy
Kasimpasa winger Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’ has explained that his aim for the World Cup is to make the Egyptian fans happy rather than to achieve personal success in scoring goals.
While he goes into the tournament as one of Egypt’s key attacking players, Trezeguet is putting his personal glory aside as he believes the most important aim for the team should be making the fans happy.
“I do not focus solely on scoring personally, but on achieving victory for Egypt. I will fight for Egypt and win the Pharaohs at the World Cup. Our goal is to make the fans happy and reach the most points in the World Cup”, said Trezeguet.
The 2018 tournament will be Egypt’s first appearance at a World Cup in 28 years, meaning that it will be the first time seeing Egypt on the grand stage for a large proportion of the country. In addition, only a handful of players in the squad will be old enough to have memories of the tournament.
Trezeguet went on to explain the effect that the recent friendlies have had on the team, adding “Friendlies are not a measure [of how good Egypt are] but just experiments that benefit us technically.”
Trezeguet scored 16 goals for Kasimpasa last season in all competitions, but it will require more of a team effort in order to overcome the tricky opponent in Egypt’s first game against Uruguay on June 15th at 5PM Egyptian time.
